Test Network Quality with the Teams Mobile App

Did you know you can easily test your network quality directly from the Teams mobile app? It's a simple yet powerful feature that can help you ensure smooth connectivity and communication.

Here's how:

  1. Open your Teams mobile app.

  2. Navigate to "Settings."

  3. Select "Walkie Talkie."

  4. Choose "Test Network Quality."

For an optimal experience, keep these network considerations in mind:

Network Conditions Required:

  • Latency (RTT): < 300 ms

  • Jitter: < 30 ms

  • Packet Loss: < 1%

As noted, the quality of real-time media over an IP network is greatly affected by these conditions:

  • Latency: The time it takes for an IP packet to travel from point A to point B on the network. Measured as Round-trip Time (RTT), this delay is influenced by the physical distance and network overhead.

  • Inter-arrival Jitter: The average change in delay between successive packets.

  • Packet Loss: Percentage of packets lost over time, directly impacting audio quality. From minimal loss with negligible impact to burst losses causing audio cut-out.

Ensuring these metrics are within the required range will help maintain high-quality communication on Microsoft Teams.
